On the 10th day of Christmas...

On the 10th day of Christmas Recycle for West Sussex told me the top 10 Christmas WEEE items to recycle…

This year the residents of West Sussex recycled 8496 tonnes of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE)! This is the equivalent weight of approximately 170 million mince pies, which could easily be the amount of mince pies the British population consumes this Christmas - if we all eat 2.7 mince pies each!

Electrical items make a popular gift at Christmas because many of them we couldn’t possibly live without! If you receive a new electrical item this year, do your bit by recycling the old item it’s replacing. Your old electrical item will be put to good use - its different components will be sorted and separated, then reused or melted down to be made into something new.

Top 10 electrical Christmas items that can be recycled at your local Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS):

1. Hairdryers

2. Curling tongs

3. Foot spas

4. Electrical toothbrushes

5. Christmas tree lights

6. CD players

7. DVD players

8. Electric shavers

9. Blenders

10. Food processors

All old and broken electrical appliances can be taken to your local HWRS for recycling – this includes large household items such as fridges, freezers and dishwashers, monitors (TVs and computers) and of course your smaller appliances (toasters, kettles, hairdryers etc).

Help make sure your recycling can have a new use by keeping your items clean, dry and loose!
