Love summer, love your clothes

Posted on 3 July 2019

Shops are full of school uniforms and holiday clothes now the summer has started but we have a few tips from our Tackling Textiles campaign that may save you money and from having to throw clothes away.

Donate: If you’ve fallen out of love with last summer’s outfit, give it a second chance at life by taking it to a charity shop instead of throwing it out.

Repair: Your holidays might have taken you far and wide, and your clothes might not have come back quite the same. Or perhaps your kids’ school uniform is not looking its best. It’s easier than you think to patch up a hole or replace a button. There are regular repair café’s that run in West Sussex or you could check out the Love your Clothes website to find some handy tips to get you started.

Swap and Sell: Organising or attending a clothes swap is a fun way to get a new outfit and give your old ones a new home. Why not ask your children’s school if they run uniform swap or sales – if they don’t, why not set up your own with some of the other parents? Summer fetes are the ideal time to get swapping.

Recycle: If your clothes are beyond repair you can take them to a textiles bank at your local Household Waste Recycling Site or your nearest bring bank so they can be recycled. You can find out what textiles are accepted here.
