Tackling Textiles - Recycle

Posted on 11 March 2019

Since January, we have been asking residents to join us in ‘Tackling Textiles’.

In the last couple of months we have focused on how to repair or reuse textiles and now we are focusing on recycling.

So just what can you do with unwanted clothes, shoes, blankets and bedding that are beyond repair or reuse?

Some of the things you can do include:

Using them as rags,

Taking old towels and blankets to an animal rescue centre,

Taking them to a textiles bank at your local Household Waste Recycling Site (HWRS),

Taking them to your nearest bring bank site.

If you take items to a textiles bank, clothes and shoes that still have some life left in them will be sorted and sent for reuse.

Old, well-worn or torn textiles will be recycled by shredding and used in the ‘flocking’ industry as car seat fillers.

You can find out more on what can go in the textiles/bring banks on our website.
