Ford Open Day

Behind the scenes at the recycling plant

Posted on 21 August 2012

Recycling and waste management company Viridor is once again throwing open its doors to residents of West Sussex as part of the Heritage Open Day events this September.

Heritage Open Days, funded by English Heritage, celebrate England’s architecture and culture by allowing visitors free access to interesting properties not usually open to the public or those that would usually attract an entrance fee.

The open days will include a free tour of a state-of-the-art Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) at Ford in Arundel, operated on behalf of West Sussex County Council.

After being over-subscribed last year, Viridor is hosting three events for West Sussex residents on Thursday 6 September at 6.30pm and Friday 7 September at 10am and 12pm.

Tessa Nash, Regional Communications Manager said: “This is a unique opportunity for anyone curious about what happens to their recycling once it’s collected from their homes to get a rare glimpse behind the scenes at one of our busiest sites.

People will be able to see first-hand the various technologies we use to separate out all the materials we receive so they can be recycled into other products.

“We know that people are increasingly interested in reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill and hope that by coming and seeing what happens at the Ford facility they will go away inspired to recycle more and waste less.”

The tour will last one hour. Places are limited so book early to avoid disappointment by calling 01903 712 620 or emailing
